Starting A New Business – Utilizing Your Network To Build Your New Business

Darryl Van Kirk asked:

Who is in My Network?

Your Network consists of your friends, relatives, business associates, church members, merchants you do business with and anyone else who knows you by your first name.

You’ve started your business, whether it be a retail store, a home business a service business or whatever.

Obviously you need to tell everyone you know or meet about your new business.

What is step one to get the word out?

Step one is to immediately order some business cards. I would immediately go to a place like vistaprint.com and at the very least take advantage of their 250 free cards program.

Some of you may be looking for a certain image to portray and that is great but how much marketing are you getting done while you ponder the design. How long will it take to get the cards designed and printed?

I would suggest that you immediately order some cards to get your business off the ground.

Okay, you took my advice and today your cards came in. If you are like most people, which I hope you are not, you’ll take out a few and stick the box of cards in a drawer. Most folks are still using their first thousand cards two years after their business starts.

Not you! You’re going to immediately load up your wallet, your cars, you wife’s purse, give them out to all your network of people.

I recently got into the Discount Grocery Business so I give cards out to everyone I meet. When giving them out you give a little commercial like this: I recently got into the Discount Grocery Business, if you, a friend or family member need a good deal on groceries at great prices have them visit our store, please!

Then answer any questions they may have and give then a couple good reasons to deal with you. Mine would be: “I help people save big money on their food bill. Who do you know with a big family or living on a tight budget?

Your business card is the number 1, best way to spread the word on your business if you will use it properly. Can you get that first thousand cards in circulation this week or at least this month? You will, won’t you?

Family Calendars to Give Away For Christmas

Johnny Rose asked:

Have you ever received a calendar at Christmas for the coming New Year, and the picture on it is a family picture of a good friend or close family member? This is one item that serves a double purpose: one, the family picture shows the happy complete family and it is possible to cut out the picture later for framing;, and two, you have the coming New Year’s calendar which now makes it easier for you to make decisions on certain time schedules.

Of course some people would simply call this a tacky move for they expect to receive an expensive Christmas present for the holidays, but today that is not realistic and would definitely be considered as selfish. In today’s economy-driven world, and with the recent economic crash, a lot of people with families are trying their utmost to give their very best for the coming holidays. A Christmas family calendar is one of the most cost-effective and yet personal gifts that a family could give to their friends and relatives.

For one thing, nobody should expect an expensive present, especially not in today’s crisis. What counts is that the family did their very best to remember all their friends and relatives during the holidays. This is possibly the only way that they could send something close and personal without making a dent in their budget. Giving away calendars with a family picture on it is not tacky. It is very comforting to receive one, knowing that despite everything someone remembers you, and at the same time it is a very functional item. For one thing, nobody really knows what the days and dates are in the coming New Year, and it is nice to get your bearings straight.

It can come as a full-sized page, which could be quite costly, or it come as a postcard size. If it is a full-page it could be hung on the wall or on one side of the door, and used all year through. If it is a poster-sized item then it could be stuck on the door of the fridge which will make it easier for everyone to see, and can still be used all year round. Now the wallet-sized item is also useful but mainly for its picture, as the font is usually too small to read. Most pocket-sized ones can easily get damaged which is unfortunate especially if you want to put the picture later into a family scrapbook or a picture frame.

The point is, they are a great idea for the holidays, and despite what some critics say, they are still very useful. The picture quality is also first-rate because they are photographs. And if you think about it, the family who had their pictures taken made sure they were all together, posing in front of the camera. They made great efforts to make it beautiful, friendly and functional all at the same time. For the holiday season, think about having a family picture taken and have it printed as a calendar. It is cost-effective, functional and very personal.
